Bjorn: AI Transformation Specialist turning strategy into real outcomes
09/10/2026
Umbrella Club is a community. What makes us valuable to the organisations we work with isn’t a database or a listing page, it’s the knowledge and experience our members bring to the table, built up over years in the field and shared freely with each other and with the businesses they work with.
Bjorn is one of those members. He combines executive-level strategic thinking with genuine hands-on technical depth, helping organisations move beyond AI hype and turn ambition into outcomes that actually stick.
We got to know Bjorn through his member profile below, where he shares the kind of project that energises him, the advice he’d give to more junior IT contractors, and what keeps him coming back to Umbrella Club.

Do you have a niche or special areas of interest?
I’m an AI Transformation Specialist, with expertise spanning business strategy, architecture, cloud and application delivery, and organisational change. I help leaders identify where AI can create value, shape the right solution, and then work with business and technology teams to deliver and adopt it.
What sets me apart is that I combine hands-on engineering depth with the ability to shape executive-level strategy. In recent years, I have returned to my technical roots through technical project management and hands-on AI deployment roles. This has strengthened my ability to help organisations turn AI and ML ambition into useful business outcomes.
I live what I preach and constantly experiment with new AI agent frameworks, coding tools, and workflows. This work has led to contributions to open-source projects and, more importantly, helps me assess which advances in AI can create real value for my clients.
Describe your ideal project.
I shine in projects that solve complex business problems with emerging technology and create meaningful change for the client organisation. In particular, I enjoy helping organisations turn an idea into something that works in practice and creates lasting organisational capability.
I value environments where a project has strong executive support and clear strategic direction. I also work best with steering committees that provide strong governance while giving the project team enough autonomy to use their expertise.
As a transformation leader, I am most useful when an organisation knows where it needs help and wants someone who can connect the business and technology teams. I enjoy being that conduit and helping both sides move towards the same outcome.
What advice would you give to an IT contractor at the start of their career?
Know that you build your personal brand one project at a time. If you become known as someone who gets things done, is reliable, and consistently overdelivers on assignments, this will result in unexpected returns, sometimes many years after a project has finished.
Always remember that every stakeholder matters. Treat people fairly and with respect, whatever their role on the project. You never know who you will meet again ten years later, or who might move from being a project assistant to making the decision to hire you.
Above all, keep learning and stay in touch with the people you meet along the way. Your expertise and your network compound over time, much like interest. The connections you make today can become some of your most valuable opportunities years from now.
What are your favourite things about Umbrella Club?
Being a part of what is a growing, vibrant community of professionals who never cease to amaze me with their varied and deep set of skills and experiences. I find that the regular events, both public and members-only, provide great opportunities for networking and learning in a relaxed environment.
Umbrella Club takes getting to know its members seriously and is always there to lend a helping hand, whether an opportunity will immediately benefit them or not, knowing that, in the long term, they will gain from their members’ success.

Walter is the Founder and CEO of Umbrella Club.
He emigrated to Australia in early 2018, bringing with him years of experience building a successful company in the Netherlands. Drawing inspiration from community-based staffing models that had thrived in Europe, he adapted these concepts to fit the Australian market. This led to the creation of Umbrella Club, a unique solution tailored to meet the needs of IT contractors while fostering a strong sense of community.
